Among the white hill towns, Ronda offered dramatic views of the river gorge El Tajo (more sketching). We enjoyed seeing the ancient Roman baths and quirky Museo Lara, a small private museum with a whimsical collection of just about everything: Spanish cinema posters, bullfighter photos, technical gear, toys, weapons, watches, and witchcraft!

Andrew arranged for a wonderful guitar duo house concert in our hotel lobby in Ronda. More guitars—and thundering feet—at a flamenco show in Seville.

Our My Way Spain trip ended in Seville. We added a day trip to Tangier, Morocco before heading home. We stayed two nights in Tarifa, the southern-most point of continental Europe. From there it’s a short ferry ride to Tangier. Our local guide (RS recommends Aziz Benami) took us around the coastline, Hercules Caves, camels, and the Kasbah. At lunchtime, the view from La Terraza De La Medina included a snake charmer in the square below.

Tiny Tarifa: a breezy beach town where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. It's popular with kitesurfers and has a historic old town with twisty narrow alleys full of cafes, bars, and shops to explore. Hostal Africa, with rooftop deck perfect for drawing, is another Rick Steves guidebook recommendation.

At the end of a nearly monthlong trip, we decided to splurge and hire a car for the two-hour drives between Seville and Tarifa. We used a service that offered door-to-door service and fluent English-speaking drivers. Relaxing and we had time to discuss life in Spain. Driver Rosa, a Lisbon native, is a professional woman starting her new career in Spain (we learned that some people in Portugal where much of the world’s wine corks come from absolutely refuse to drink twist-off cap wines.) Driver Manuel from Malaga gave us his perspective on Catalonian history and politics which were heating up! We appreciated their honesty and willingness to share their lives and opinions.

TIP: The hired cars were a luxury that saved us precious time. We recommend MyDayTrip for their excellent communication and responsiveness.
